Similar to an online journal, every week I will be posting a new photograph here along with a brief description of how I found the subject matter. Check back often and let me know what you think!
I took my annual trip to the Cox Arboretum last week to photograph their beautiful spring floral display and was irate when I found out that it was still being constructed. So as not to completely waste the drive up there, I wandered the grounds in search of something interesting to shoot. I found these dried flowers that resembled hydrangeas and admired their natural composition. In editing I cross-processed the frame to get a dramatic feel.

Week 11 Entry
This was dug out of the archives from the 2006 Cincinnati Flower Show. It's a macro shot of a lily pistil and stamen. Obviously the colors have been tweaked to get more of a moody feel. It's fun to pull out old shots and experiment. I remember when I shot this that I really liked the composition but something was not quite right with the coloring. I love this version though.

Week 10 Entry
Let's go abstract! This is a headlamp from an antique car. I obviously experimented with it. This was taken at the Classic Car Show in Hamilton, OH last summer. I am fascinated by small details on cars and I think they make interesting abstract shots.

Week 9 Entry
This is a late edition of an Autumn photo. I shot this last year (2007). Autumn is probably my favorite season and when it comes around I search for the perfectly vibrant orange tree. This one was as good as it gets, in my estimation. Granted the composition leaves (no pun intended) a bit to be desired, but I simply adored being surrounded by the colors.

Week 8 Entry
This was taken at SpringGrove Cemetary. I do seem to be there a lot. This building caught my attention immediately with all of it's angles and shadows. I converted it to sepia tones. It almost looks like a maze to me or an entrance to a haunted castle.

Week 7 Entry
This is a tight shot of the inside of a red tulip. I took this one at Zoo Blooms at the Cincinnati Zoo two years ago. That is by far my favorite event to shoot in the Spring. If you are a tulip lover like me, I would definitely recommend it. I really need to travel to Holland one of these days. I did a "painting" effect on this so it looks a bit like brushstrokes on canvas.

Week 6 Entry
As you may already know, I love to shoot florals. However, I rarely like to convert them to b&w for the simple fact that I'm obsessed with color. I shot this at the Orchid Show at Krohn Conservatory last year. These two stood out to me. I loved that they displayed the flowers in front of black drapery in order to highlight the gorgeous blooms.
