Similar to an online journal, every week I will be posting a new photograph
here along with a brief description of how I found the subject matter.
Check back often and let me know what you think!

Week 5 Entry

Color and pattern as a subject - I love it.  This is a macro shot which means that the actual subject matter appears much larger in the frame than it actually was. These are little sweet tart candies; very tiny and very difficult to keep from rolling off the table.

Week 4 Entry

This one is rather self-explanatory. It's a squirrel. Nothing abstract about this one. I love capturing creatures on film, but in rural Ohio there are only so many species you can come in contact with.  For the most part, I see squirrels. This little rotten one was keeping a close eye on me at all times as I shot from the window of my car.  Even though he was on guard, he looked like he posing a little. I can't help but think he's involved in some covert acorn operation. He's like the Jason Bourne of the squirrel world.

Week 3 Entry

Feeling the Japanese influence? Well, let me start off my stating that this was not taken at a cemetery. This is the first entry that was taken in the studio. I'm very interested in interpretations on this one, so even after reading my description please send me your feedback! This was an experiment with a plain glass of water and two colors of liquid food coloring. Timing is everything in a shot like this so I had to set up the equipment first, then grab the black bottle and the red bottle in each hand, try my best to squeeze one drop of both colors at the exact same moment, then pick up my remote release to fire my camera. Needless to say, there was a lot of trial and error involved, but I just fell in love with this frame.  Some of the figures remind me of dragons, but I'm sure you will see something completely different!  That is the beauty of abstract art!

Week 2 Entry

I had a difficult time deciding which photo to choose for my second blog entry, but I ended up selecting a new "experimental" piece.  Sticking with the cemetery theme, I took a trip to Spring Grove Cemetery a few weeks ago hoping to capture some ornate headstones.  I found this pretty lady standing alone by one of the beautiful ponds and she intrigued me. She was quite weathered and missing her right arm, but something about her seemed very serene.  Don't get me wrong, I was on guard the entire time my lens was pointed at her.  For someone that is so terrified by ghostly phenomenon, I sure do spend a lot of time visiting the land of the dead. Needless to say,  I experimented with this frame and came up with the composition that you see now.

Let me know what you think!

Week 1 Entry

So we are starting off with a somewhat creepy shot. I went out with the intentions of capturing the remainders of the beautiful fall colors and ended up in Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton.  I saw this row of rather understated headstones all lined up. It's a very simple photograph, but something about it holds my attention. Anyone that knows me would be shocked to hear that I chose this shot over one with bright orange foliage, but this was my favorite shot of the day.  Hope you enjoy it!
